I don't recommend rooting, as it removes any security on your phone. But if
you want to, you can load Cyanogen Mod or something like that on it.

I have the motto-g I thought it would update but it keeps telling me I
am up to date. the version is something like 4.4.4 I really thought
this would update to the latest and greatest version. it is the
motto-G first Gen so maybe to old now?
