Hi David,
According to Amazon, the Amazon Echo, 2nd generation will be available from October 20th, 2016 priced at £49.99.
I assume this is some sort of smaller version off the Amazon Echo that will be out on the 28th of this month? The blurb is below, and just for some added info, you can sign up for a free 30 day free trial of prime, and get the £149.99 Echo for £99.99. Just remember to unsubscribe from the free trial.
Amazon Echo Dot is a hands-free, voice-controlled device that uses Alexa to play music, control smart home devices, provide information, read the news, set alarms and more
Connects to speakers or headphones through Bluetooth or 3.5 mm stereo cable to play music from Prime Music, Spotify and TuneIn
Controls lights, switches, thermostats and more with compatible connected devices from WeMo, Philips Hue, Hive, Netatmo, tado° and others
Hears you from across the room with 7 microphones for far-field hands-free voice control, even in noisy environments or while playing music
Includes a built-in speaker so it can work on its own as a smart alarm clock in the bedroom, an assistant in the kitchen, or anywhere you might want a voice-controlled device
Always getting smarter - Alexa updates through the cloud automatically and is continually learning, adding new features and skills.

Cheers.
Jim.

Hi,

I didn't see a cheaper version.  There is the Amazon Tap only in the US and
the Amazon Dot here.  The Dot is a version of the Echo without a speaker
that plugs into an existing set of headphones or Hi-Fi.  The Echo has no
outputs, so you can't plug headphones into it, but you can transmit from the
Echo via Bluetooth to a pair of Bluetooth headphones.  The Dot is very
similar to the Google Chromecast, except that the Dot has microphones in it
for doing the same listening that the Echo does.

All the best

Steve

Morning all,

After much persistence, I have finally ordered my Amazon Echo with voice
remote control.  I also obtained my £50 discount as a prime member.

I notice there is a cheaper version of the Echo.  Anyone know how they
differ?

I can't wait for it to arrive.

David
