I believe it can read Audible, but not Kindle at this time.

The Echo does *not* read Kindle books as in electronic books, however it can
play Audible titles from your library if you purchase and use Audible
audiobooks.

I looked on Amazon for info about the Echo but did not notice any reference
to reading kindle books, which would be a big plus for me. Also I did not
notice any information about the text to speech voice.
The Echo does sound interesting though.

It is essentially a speaker that allows you to command lots of things around
the home courtesy of the Alexa voice assistant. You can ask her to read you
news, weather, Kindle books, and control your heating system or other
appliances. That is it in short, but she does a lot more. I have wanted
one for ages, and resisted the temptation to buy one from America where,
until now, was the only place you could get it.
