A nice concept but it didn't catch on.
My take on it is twofold.
Firstly, it used legacy technology in an era when electronics was moving
apace.
Secondly, with hindsight it reminds me of the old story that the camel is a
horse designed by a committee.

When I was at the RNC in 1991 there was an electronic thing called the
'Mountbatten' Brailler.  Never heard of it since.
