Hi Jackie,
I'm not sure whether it will be the same method, but I would have thought
that the Sonos 1 would have the advantage of having Alexa built into it.
All the best

Hi Steve
Yes, thanks, I've done mine now but it also took me a little time to work
out that extra step you described below. So the Sonos speaker coming out in
a couple of weeks is really offering the Alexa service built into it rather
than doing it the way we have?
Kind regards,

Subject: [access-uk] Alexa and Sonos finally meet!
Hi all,
I have set this up, and it works pretty well. However, don't just read the
information from the Sonos skill page, it is missing one vital detail that
you have to perform before it will work. Took me most of the weekend to set
it up, but the most comprehensive article is here:-
https://www.theverge.com/2017/10/5/16431688/sonos-speaker-alexa-voice-comman
ds-how-to-setup
And the extra step? Once you authorise both your Amazon and Sonos accounts
to talk to each other, you must go into the Alexa app, go to the menu,
select Smart Home, then Auto Discover. Now your Sonos devices will be seen.
You don't have to select them, the fact that the Alexa app has discovered
them, is enough to make it work.
Remember also not to use the word "the" when you ask it to play in a
specific room. For example, our Play:5 is in the master bedroom and is
called Master Bedroom. So you would say something like:-
"Alexa, play me some Blues in Master Bedroom" not "in the master bedroom".
If you add that "the" word, it will fail every time. Of course, you could
get round that by renaming your device "The Master Bedroom" then you
wouldn't fall into that trap.
Other things to note are that it does not support Spotify yet, and you can't
read your Kindle or play Audible books with it at this time.
I hope this helps.
All the best
Steve
