Carol, I've got Adobe Reader 8a, or whatever. The file for the
Birmingham area took some time to be processed in Adobe Reader, but it
did get there. No doubt it would have taken a bit less time had I
fewer programs running at the time.
I did an experimental conversion to text saved in a parallel file to
the PDf-propper. As far as I could see the essential bus stop codes
were missing, but I'll take another look.
I feel strongly this information should be in tabular form on the
website. That way it would be much easier to navigate. Then again,
the Yorkshire site at:
http://wypte.acislive.com/
providing the same sort of info, Is an easier proposition for a screen
reader user.
I wonder if this facility isn't actually a standard package provided
by some information systems company as I'm sure this service is pretty
similar wherever you happen to live. If this is the case, then they
should extend the provision of the service to a standardised website
layout that is proven to work for us.
Then again, all of this gives us a little less flexibility than
someone who can read the bus stop codes when out and about and enter
them directly into their phones. So, I reason that a Blue Tooth, or
similar device should be embedded, buried, in the bus stop to
communicate the unique code to a phone directly. Then, if you've a
Talks, or similar equipped phone, you could just get the bus stop
number and get the info about next buses due like everyone else.
As it is, we have to do some preparation via the net, or some
pre-published list, and this is where I came in, and hence this
discussion.

I took a look at the PDF document, trying to work through the process

It never did format but my computer totally and utterly froze up!

Did you ever manage to get the PDF to a readable state on your
machine, I
wonder?
I'm using JAWS 8.0.2173 and have Adobe 7.0.9. Hmmm! Never got very
favourable results since I updated Adobe!
Anyway, thumbs well and truly down for me so far! Let us know the
outcome
of this. I'm glad I don't live in Birmingham now and just hope I can
look
up bus numbers with greater ease and satisfaction!
