Christopher, are you running XP with just 256 MB of memory?
Another 256 will most definitely improve things, but I'd
very seriously suggest you get an extra 1 Gigabyte of you
can afford it, and if your laptop will support it. (Not all
laptops will, as I discovered when I added the maximum
possible to my wife's Sony Vaio last week.)

And of course. If you pay to have it fitted, you are
perfectly entitled to ask that they prove it shows up. This
is a 3 second job in the shop. Simply right click on My
Computer, and select Properties.

George.

Subject: [access-uk] Adding RAM

Hi all,
Sorry for the cross posting, but I'd like to know the
following:
I currently have 256 MB of RAM in this Toshiba laptop and
I'm
considering taking it to a computer store like PC World so
that they can
add another 256 MB so that I have a total of 512 MB of RAM.
However, I
am wondering, due to my blindness, do I have the right to
test the
laptop before taking it back? Thing is I don't want to risk
taking a
once fully working laptop that's now faulty thanks to bad
RAM back to my
accomodation at my university in Birmingham, so this is why
I'm asking.
Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you.
