Do you mean that we should discuss whatever we like on the list,
irrespective of the guidelines or what the moderator says, on the grounds
that that will reflect the majority view?
In which case why have guidelines, why have a moderator, and why limit the
range of topics by calling the list access-uk?
In case I haven't made myself clear, I completely support George's view and
wish those who want a different list would subscribe to or create one as
appropriate (by which I don't mean to suggest they shouldn't also stay with
this one) - for access technology topics).

It seems to me that the guidelines ar clear and wise, and that to say that
much of the traffic on the list is about access to (mainstream) technology
rather than access technology is only to say that George has been overly
indulgent to people inclined to push the boundaries.
The result, of course, is the slippery slope that leads inexorably from
washing machine touch screens, via coffee machine pods, to grumpy bus
drivers - all of which I am sure could and should be discussed (no doubt at
length) on other lists.
George, I know it will be tough negotiating us back up that slippery slope,
but I for one would support the attempt!

I totally agree with Mike's interpretation and examples below. I think he
hits the nail on the head when he says "it's our access to technology and
it's use rather than actual access technology that gets discussed on here".
Of course it's ultimately the moderator's decision but maybe it makes sense
to adopt this approach to the list in this day and age where devices have
come along way from the time of Windows 95.

I don't wish to sound as if I'm being facetious, because I'm really not
trying to be. But interpreting the first couple of points of the guidelines
strictly literally would exclude much greater than 50% of the traffic on
this list.
Again, it's our access to technology and it's use rather than actual access
technology that gets discussed on here more often than any products
specifically aimed at the VI.
I suggest all we can do is take the guidelines in the spirited they are
intended. Maybe talking about miserable bus drivers (which I have been
guilty of in the past) is off-topic, but talking about whether a washing
machine you can buy in Curry's has only touch-sensitive screen controls and
digital displays and how it is totally inaccessible should be OK.
Just to pull an example out of the air which has not (to my knowledge) been
discussed.
