Thanks Paul,

Short of formatting the disk, I cannot get the system recognise it. I think
I will put it in one of the other PCs and boot from it so that I can
transfer documents.

Thanks Paul,

It is quite useful, but, the article assumes that the DISK is recognised by
the system. In my case, the system recognises a hardware connection, but,
does not recognise the disk. Under disk management, unknown disk comes-up to
be initialised, but, as soon as I click on ok, it gives me the fatal error.

George,

It is a Kingston SSD. I do not think it requires any software.

I tried to initialise it, but, it comes up with an error saying the
requested function failed due to fatal error.

I have just put the SSD in the enclosure and connected to my PC. The
hardware connected sound comes up, but, it does not show in my PC. Do you
know where I may be going wrong?

In theory, yes.  However, it is possible that you may run into some security
issues and may, just may, have to use (or even set up) an administrator
account with full privileges on your PC.

My son's pc just died on him and he desperately needs to access his
documents on the SSD, where the windows was also installed. Is it possible
to access the documents with my PC? I have an ssd enclosure that could turn
the SSD into an external USB drive.
