Hi Jackie

I also use an ordinary microwave with just the two dials.

I turn the timer dial quite a way past what I think it needs, then just grab
the iphone, tell Siri to set a timer to the appropriate time, then bingo.

Jackie almost the same happened to us last year with the talking microwave .
Only just over 2 years old half way through cooking rice it died on us so
had to finish the job on the conventional cooker, ooch.
Put a new fuse in the plug but still no joy so the next day I called Cobolt
, mistake there.
I have never had the misfortune to speak with such a rude company and won't
again.
I spoke with the electrician who said I should change the internal fuse, now
not being any electrician but brain cells working I told that person that in
my opinion the internal fuse blew because there is some fault with the unit.
To this comment she did not answer so I told her she needed more training
not only in eletrical matters but also in communication skills and manners.
We are lucky enough to have two indipendant shops so called them to explain
our needs and like you we now have a microwave costing £59 with just the
dial for power level and one for the 30 minute timer which on delivery Dave
put bump ons for the places we wanted.
The make of ours is Welko , it's a lot smaller but at least it doesn't yell
at top volume every time you open the bloody door.
I have heard of other people with the cobolt oven talking to itself
something ours didn't do.
I for one will never purchase from this company again.
