Kerzweil 3000 is good for dyslectics, but I don't think it is dyslectics
software Chris is looking for. It's the English language peculiarities that
are a problem. Words like *there* with e r e and *their* with e i r.
Unfortunately, there are many such examples in teh English language.

most of the dyslexia related tools I know of, namely tools such as Texthelp
Read and Write Gold, Dolphin tutor and the like are not really accessible as
they are toolbars though they do have spell checkers and homophone checkers
aimed at people with dyslexia. It is a shame that Dolphon didn't have the
where with all to make their program accessible though.

If you want speech recognition there is J-Say. This used to be available in
standard and professional versions but is now only available in the
professional version.

You would need to upgrade to the latest version of JAWS for that but this is
free. You would though need J-say Professional and Dragon Naturally
Speaking Professional and you would be lucky to get any change out of £1000
if you bought this yourself. That being said, is she not a student? she
should be able to get DSA (Disabled students' Allowance.) if so.

There is a package called TalkingPoint. This works well for people with
dyslexia but while the text being dictated can be spoken back with synthetic
speech and this may be helpful, training would be required and I'm not sure
it can be described as anywhere near a truely accessible solution for
someone with no useful vision to use independently. There may well be a
solution out there, but it depends largely on the nature and severity of the
difficulties she is experiencing.

Graham

Subject: [access-uk] Accessible Spelling Software

Hi all,
My girlfriend has learning difficulties and has major trouble with her
spelling, for example using the wrong spelling of a word despite it
sounding the same. Are there any accessible software, such as word
prediction or speech recognition software, that would help her with
this? She's using JAWS 8.0.423 demo. Thanks.
