Radio still has a place in the marketplace. DAB radio does host a much bigger
selection of station than available on FM, you don’t need an Internet
connection to use it which means you don’t have to worry about having a mobile
device or Wi-Fi access and paying for service, it’s completely free and
reception is generally good. You can always check your reception on the digital
one website. I have a world band radio and as I am in Turkey, FM is the primary
radio band here so practically every single station that can be crammed onto
the FM band is just a flick of a dial or push of a button away :-) also one of
the other advantages with radio is that you tend to do more browsing and can
discover stations you otherwise wouldn’t know about.

In a way you are right, Steve in that DAB radio reception cannot be
guaranteed but it does have many stations which are not available via FM
Radio. I'd say that these days I listen as much to DAB as FM radio.

Is DAB radio that important really? You can't get signal everywhere, the
quality is not as good as FM Radio or Internet radio, and I could go on.

I am really surprised that neither rnib nor British wireless for the Blind
fund have done anything about commissioning a portable dab radio. In view of
how important radio is for someone who does not see and the governments hope
that one day all stations will be available via DAB you would think that by
now away round of making an accessible portable dab radio would have been
found.
