I did see the device in question and, baring in mind that we were all on dialup in those days, it worked very well. Probably a bit on the large side by these day's standards though. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jackie Cairns" <cairnsplace@xxxxxxx>

George did indeed show such a device at Sight, though I never saw it. But RNIB got mixed up in it so the whole thing went down the tubes. Sorry to be scathing, but actually I'm just saying what a lot of people feel, and who never get the opportunity to trial or have input, just watching the thousands of pounds being wasted.

I can remember George BEll demonstrating a talking internet radio at Sight Village about 6 years ago. You selected the country and having done that, you were presented with a list of stations. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Iain Lackie" <ilackie@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

I would have thought that listening to radio on the internet only would make
a product that many of us would very much like to have. Fairly basic
research would I think have proved this.

Hi List

I am posting below a reply I have just received from Solutions Radio in
Holland, where I understand the accessible Internet radio is being
manufactured. I thought some of you might have a chuckle at her optimism,
if nothing else (big smile).

Dear Mrs Cairns,
I am mightily impressed that you found us!
The product is already being released in the UK.
However, we do not envisage people wanting to listen to radio stations
only.
Therefore, we have also included talking newspapers and magazines and
books. Maybe that is of interest to you as well.

At the moment TNAUK is doing a trial with the ORIONWebbox.
I have therefore forwarded your e-mail to Ted Davis of TNAUK , who will
undoubtedly contact you and tell you more.

Best regards
Marianne van der Meulen
