Well I don't think so no. Microsoft Essentials does not detect and block all types of malware; just viruses and spyware. It also does not detect and block malware running on websites. So this is why I recommended the below, along with the Windows firewall.

So, wouldn't Microsoft essentials and Microsoft firewall be enough to
protect me? Sigh. My poor old processor.

Hi all.
Can I suggest upgrading to the pro version of Malwarebytes? It includes
realtime protection of malware of all kinds, including those from
websites. You can also schedule scans and/or updates. The pro version is
£16.10, and it is for a lifetime license. They accept Paypal as a
payment method.
Just a thought, along with Microsoft Security Essentials, which by the
way does not conflict with the pro version of MalwareBytes.
Again just a thought.
Chat soon.

Thanks to all who have warned me against using the anti-virus as an on
demand rather than on all the time. I didn't realize that malware could
be
hidden in code on websites. This explains how I might have got infected a
few years ago.

I might look at less resource hungry progs, like Windows essentials and
Windows firewall instead of komodo and AVG.

Cheers
