Hi,

I tried this - it asked if I wanted to restart, I said yes, and as soon as I restart there's an icon there again saying it needs to restart. But still no message saying it's downloading an update. I've just tried this a few times and am going round in circles restarting and being asked to restart. I'm going to try uninstalling reinstalling the thing.

Catherine, try right clicking the icon in the task bar and try selecting one of the options. Try to open the scanning window from it or something. This
should then throw up an error message saying it needs to restart the
machine, and would you like to do it now? Hit the yes button and see if it
cures the issue. It may well have downloaded another update by itself in
the meantime and needs restarting again.

If this works, then go in and try and do a manual update.

Hello Mark,

When I restart the computer there's still an icon in the system tray saying
it's necessary to restart the computer for the update process to complete.
And I'm still not getting the message I used to get saying AVG was
downloading the latest update. Seems wrong...

Catherine, you simply need to restart your PC for the updates in avg to
take
effect.

For some reason my tower PC used to do this every time avg was updated.
My
laptop does not need restarting after avg updates, however.

Hello Chris,

I couldn't find an AVG icon in the system tray so right clicked on the
message saying to finish the update process it's necessary to restart the
computer, then chose check for updates. I then got a message saying
update
was unsuccessful and just with an ok button.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Perhaps it just means it wasn't successful because I haven't restarted but
I'm a bit concerned...

For your AVG query, open the select a system tray icon dialogue box with
insert F11, select AVG in the list, press enter to perform a right click
and open the context menu, and press enter on check for updates. If you
get a message stating that AVG is up-to-date, then you're fine, otherwise
follow the instructions that appear in the update dialogue box. There is
a

way to tell AVG that a restart isn't required to finish the update
process, but I can't remember where that is, except to say that you
change

it through the AVG control centre. Hope that helps.

Subject: [access-uk] AVG question was Re: Real Player problem

Hi,

I've fixed my Real Player problem by downloading the dll and replacing
the old one with it. But I'm worried there might be a virus or some
such

problem on my computer because in the properties of the problem dll file
it said last modified, and gave a time a couple of days ago which was
the

last time I was successfully listening to music - I shut down the
computer then, and the next day had this problem where I couldn't listen
to music.

I'm sure nothing should be modifying dlls. So I want to make sure AVG
is

working/updating properly. I've noticed recently that I no longer get
the message when I switch on my computer that I'm now downloading the
latest update and it will be installed automatically - this used to
happen when AVG was being updated. I do though get something in the
system tray saying update manager: to finish the update process it is
necessary to restart the computer; next update scheduled on...

This implies to me that AVG is keeping updated. But it seems strange to
say that it's necessary to restart to complete the update process but
not

tell me it's downloading the update like it used to. How can I check
for

sure AVG is up to date? Do other people get the message saying they're
now downoading the latest update?

And if anyone has any other suggestions as to how I can try and figure
out what modified my dll I'd appreciate them. Before overwriting this
dll with a downloaded one I had done a scan with AdAware and with
regscrub xp and another registry scanner; all of which reported finding
and fixing problems...

Hi,

Everything was working fine but now whenever I try to play anything in
Real Player or Winamp I get thiserror:
realplay.exe - Bad Image
The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\KsUser.dll is not a valid
Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.
OK

So this dll must be missing or corrupted. I've tried running regscrup
xp to see if that would solve the problem but it hasn't. I uninstalled
and reinstalled Real Player which doesn't make a difference.

There's a site, dll-files.com where you can download dll files. I'dm
thinking of trying that but I wondered if anyone has any other
suggestions or advice?
