Billy, just ignore aol, what I mean, don't touch it with a barge pole even if its on your system.
just navigate around it, like George says, the only proper way is to format, but then when you reinstall windows from the manufacturers cd, it will be back as the damn thing is bundled with nearly everything these days.
just delete the short cuts that are in your programs and on the desktop.
had the same issue with freeserve.

Hi Billy,

Not exactly kidding. Don't be surprised if you find
annoying remnants of AOL left after removing it.

George.

Hi Billy,

There's only one proper way to remove AOL.

Format c: George.

hi guys, my friend is thinking of changing his Internet
Provider.
At the moment, he has AOL, and wishes to remove the
software.
Is there any known problems removing AOL or is it a
straight
forward add/remove?.
