Hi Carol, Spybot creates a Restore Point prior to removal of any offending spyware. Be assured you can safely allow Spybot to do its job. If it is finding lots of problems, then it's a safe bet that this is affecting performance. Some basic tips.. 1) Spyware and Viruses can hide in the System Restore files. It therefore is often wise to turn off System Restore, reboot the system. (But see point 3) 2) Having done that, do a full virus check, and eliminate any offending issues. 3) Assuming 2) is clean, turn on System restore again and create a Restore Point manually. 4) From the "Run" option, type msconfig and press Enter. Go to the Services Tab, and check the button which says "Hide all Microsoft Services". Look very carefully at what is left in the list, and try to identify what they all are. Some will be obvious, but any you cannot positively identify, find out what they are. You can then decide whether or not to stop a suspect service. If you do stop a Service, you will need to re-boot to ensure it is properly stopped. It will remain in the list, so you can restart it if needs be.
