OK, so why do we get both mentioned? Just to confuse me, I guess!

Sleep's the new standby.

What's the difference then between sleep, hybernate and standby?
Hope someone can give me a full explanation of these.

I love hybernate with my laptop but haven't found it works
particularly well with my desktop so I left it alone. Standby
didn't work either in the early days when I tried it.

Glad it's working ok Carol.

There isn't a sleep button as far as I know. Mine is set in the
power settings to sleep when the lid is closed, and to shutdown
when the power button is pressed.

No idea what the Launch is either I'm afraid. If it was an
application that came on it I have probably removed it already.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your help. We're up and running.

Do you, or anyone else, know what Launch is all about and whether
I should remove it. Also, I haven't located the "sleep" button
yet. Any idea?

Thanks!

We're very pleased so far and I couldn't believe the kind of
speed I can get

up.

Carol,

No idea if there is an image of the windows setup on the hard
disk. Sorry.

What is rather ironic, is that I got a copy of windows and
microsoft works on CD in the box with the machine. Ironic, as
there is no optical drive on the machine, so how are you supposed
to use them if you need to?!!?!

It gave us a laugh, anyway.

Cheers,

Thanks, Mark. That's what I suspected ...

I always like to check on these things, so one final question,
if I may?

Do you know if there's a complete copy of the system already on
disk, with a

keystroke (combination) to return to scratch if and when you
need?
Carol,

The power switch on buttom is on the top right of the keyboard
just above the keys themselves.

When you first run the machine you will need sighted help. It
does the Windows first run and asks you for various details like
your name and settings, so I doubt very much you can load any
speech programs straight away. I had to get my friend to do the
first run for me, then load avg, then do all the updates for
windows and avg on the web before I loaded the screen reader.

It should be fine to fit the battery and put it on charge for
the weekend though!

Hi all,

Our Advent should arrive today and of course the weekend looms!
<Smiles>

We are unlikely to have sighted help around so, if any of you
who have these

machines can give us a hand, that would be great!

How long do we need to give the first charge of the battery?

Where's the switch on button (if not obvious)?

Finally, when you switch on for the first time, any idea where
you're placed - straight into Windows but with that screen that
you have to complete some data, maybe? If anyone was able to
load speech straight away and everything came up OK then please
let me know.

Thanks a lot!
