Hi Andy,
Try the following website, they have a free program called, Switch audio
file converter which i've just tried and it does convert AAC files to MP3
and many other formats.
2 other programs get installed at the same time, but you can always delete
them as they are just demos.
It is a basic version, but you could always buy the full version if you like
it.

Hi Andy
I've checked the URL and find I made a mistake. The alternative program was
the $14 one. It's called Sound Taxi but I wasn't too impressed with it. You
may disagree but it has a free trial as does Xilisoft so you can make your
own mind up. That one is $23 so still very affordable. The URL I used is:
