Hi All,

One other Here are thoughts regarding fund raising:

1) Seek out Grants through federal entities like NIDRR (National Institute on
Disability, rehabilitation and Research), or large national groups like NFB,
ACB, AFB. May be start with local chapters.

2) Once a month my Fellowship does share the plate for local non profit. The
Sunday's collection goes to area non- profit. May be some fellowships,
churches, temples, mosques in the area does this I do not know. I attend a UU
fellowship and I know Madison has 2-3 UU fellowships in the area.

Please contact me if you have any questions or if I can provide further
information. Thank you for your time and attention in this matter.

Respectfully,
Geoff

Subject: [absoft-board] Priorities and Plans

This is a supplement to the regular board message. It discusses future plans
and possibilities.

I think that our priorities should be first, to improve our website,
http://www.abilitiessoft.org so that we can begin receiving tax deductible
donations online. Our consultants, Techoutfit, put me in touch with Howie Burke
of Silverlane. He has given me a quote for improving the appearance of the home
page and setting up a donations page. I will forward the quote in another
message. Other enhancements can be done later. The cost will be $500. He has
done much work for nonprofits in the past. I have enough resources to
contribute this cost.

The second priority should be to obtain Directors and Officers insurance. This
will cost about $400 annually.
It is not certain how this will be paid for.

The third priority should be to set up a backup system. We have three
computers, one of which is a Mac iBook. One of the others is dual-boot in Vinux
and Windows 7. The third is running Ubuntu. This is the one I use most. In
addition I may receive an iPad with a Braille display through the ICanConnect
program. The backup settup I have in mind is a 2 TB network-connected hard
drive (NAS)). This will require replacing our current router, which is almost
ten years old. The cost will be about $300. Again, it is not certain how this
will be paid for. I will ask TechOutfit for their recommendations.

The mission of AbilitiesSoft is developing software for people with
disabilities. Since I am no longer doing programming due to age, it is rather
uncertain how best to accomplish this mission. I am doing some consulting on
the three software projectss which I developed, liblouis, liblouisutdml, and
BrailleBlaster. In addition I am working with a team which is redesigning
liblouisutdml to take advantage of the things that have been learned since it
was written. If we receive sufficient funding we may be able to hire people to
do programming and to write reference materials and tutorials.

You may want to look at http://www.liblouis.org and
http://www.brailleblaster.org . You can download an alpha version of
BrailleBlaster for Windows to see how it works. There is also a Mac OSX version
and there will ultimately be a Linux version. APH is currently doing most of
the development. They would like any support they can get.

Jack has been working on fundraising, but without much success so far.
He is working without pay, since we lost the funding from ViewPlus, Inc.

Your thoughts and comments will be most welcome.
