Dear Brothers and Sisters,
This email is regarding the Circle of
Life fellowship on Friday night. You are all cordially invited to our
3rd meeting on Friday, July 28, 2006, and it will start at 7:30 pm.
There is a potluck that starts at 6:15 pm and you are all welcome to
join us in breaking bread with the rest of the Chinese church. You are
welcome to bring food since it is a potluck, but if you are unable to
do so, just come and enjoy the food! For your information, here are
the directions to the Chinese church. Please feel free to call Dien at
805-259-9430 or myself at 805-895-8857 for rides to the fellowship.
If you are coming from UCSB:
Take the 101S
Exit Las Positas, and make a left. (you will pass an Elementary school, and a golf course before you get to State street)
Make a right on State Street
Drive past Coffee Bean, and when you see Long's Drugs,
Make a right onto W. Calle Crespis and park at Long's Drugs.
Chinese church is the white church-like building to the left of Long's
Drugs (if you are looking at the store from the outside).
This Friday Night's topic will tentatively be "Washing the Feet".
leaving, I just wanted to share a wonderful moment where God brought me
comfort and peace when I was struggling with issues at work.
was having difficulty showing grace and love to a collegue whom I had a
disagreement with. As things were heating up, I started praying for
grace because everytime I thought of the issue, my pride started to
well up and I did not want to be the person who gave in especially
since I had been wronged during this whole situation. Yet realizing
that it was my pride and my lack of humility, which was interfering
with an opportunity for me to show God's love...I sat at my desk
praying and struggling with my anger and frustration. Then I thought
of His grace, and what Jesus did on the cross for me...trying to
understand that grace...then I decided to look up the definition of
grace and on www.dictionary.com
... as the 3rd or 4th definition, it states:
Grace - (a) divine love and protection bestowed freely on people
(b) the state of being protected or sanctified by the favor of God
(c) an excellence or power granted by God --- this led me to Ephesians...
3:14-20 As Paul is praying for the Ephesians, "For this reason I bow
my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on
earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant
you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner
being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith--that you,
being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with
all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and
to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be
filled with all the fullness of God."
And as I was turning there
to read it, I read the next page of my bible and this just shook me so
hard to the point of me feeling so convicted, humbled... that I no
longer had any anger, but a feeling of peace with regards to the whole
"Now this I say and testify in
the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the
futility of their minds. They are darkened in their understanding,
alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in
them, due to their hardness of heart. They have become callous and have
given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of
impurity. But that is not the way you learned Christ!-- assuming that
you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in
Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of
life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the
spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the
likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his
neighbor, for we are members one of another. Be angry and do not sin;
do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to
the devil. Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor,
doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to
share with anyone in need. Let no corrupting talk come out of your
mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion,
that it may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy
Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let
all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away
from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted,
forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. Therefore be
imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ
loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice
I hope to see you all Friday night.
In His grace and love,
