Hi family,
I hope you're all enjoying your break so far! And finding time to rest and spend with God. I know its hard when you finally get a break to bust out that Bible and dig into His word, but I did it this morning and I am SO refreshed.
This morning as I was reading through Exodus and learning all about the sacrifices and burnt offerings they had to make back in the OT, I (re)realized how amazing JESUS is. Because of Jesus' death and resurrection, we no longer have to follow those rituals and make sacrifices to the Lord (John 3:16-17, John 11:25). Its amazing! You learn about it, read about it, sing about it and have bible studies about it but do you really think about it??
Check this out - we don't have to do a single thing but ACCEPT Jesus as our Lord and Savior and DEDICATE our lives to Him (Romans 1
0:9-10;
Matthew 16:24-25). Ok, so that sounds like a lot but thats only becaues our flesh is so weak and if you're like me (a bit of a control freak) you really just don't want to GIVE UP your life to anyone. But God even has an answer to that! He gives us strength to let go and lay our lives before Him (Philippians 4:13; Romans 8:26-27) God made it so easy by giving us JESUS!
So what did I get from this? That I'm so undeserving but God loves me so much that He was willing to give His One and only Son, so we could worship Him, talk to Him, and have an intimate relationship with Him. This Christmas, I want to remember WHY we celebrate the season. Its not for the lights, the snow, or the Christmas spirit. Its not for the presents, the candy canes or even the family gatherings. Christmas is about Jesus. Its about the Ultimate Sacrifice. He is why we can LIVE and have everlasting life. Remember Jesus this Christmas, and celebrate His birthday, and THANK GOD that He loves
us so
much when we did absolutely nothing to deserve it.
How deep the Father's love for us
How vast beyond all measure
That He would give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure...
