One of the hardest things in percussion is to quickly internalize a tempo. When the jazz drummer counts out "One, Two, One Two Three Four", the band has to immediately set their internal clocks to this tempo. Because this is so difficult, much taiko music has a "washy" beginning as the players adjust to one another as they figure out the tempo for the first few bars. Work on improving your ability to jump into a tempo and stay there with the "Hard starts drill"! It's a really fun challenge. You can even do this one without sticks and a practice pad - do it on your lap in the bus! Kris
