A cat 5 crossover cable is all you need.  Hook the 2 pc's via the
network cards and peer to peer them for file transfer.  If you need
instructions on how to set them up to peer to peer, see

Good question -
 one is a hp pent 3 with a nic
the other is hp pent 4 and nic.
both have usb ports.
