Hi Frank, I believe your experience is the exception rather than the rule. I upgraded from the free Zone Alarm to Pro and never had any problems, and many others have too. With any software install there is the risk of problems, even as severe as totally trashing the system. Zone Alarm Pro offers additional file extensions that it looks for and auto-quarantines, and has a few other relatively minor features over the free version. The core of the free and Pro versions are identical. Also, when you upgrade the free version to the next free version, you get a sales picth for the Pro version and other similar low-key (in my opinion) advertising). So upgrading to Zone Alarm Pro is not really necessary to receive virtually the same level of protection. Personally, I bought ZA Pro mainly because it is such a fantastic product and I wanted to support it.
