[24hoursupport] Windows Update

I have tried a number of times to use Windows Update with no success. I t
appears to be downloading, but ends up with the message:
"Could not be installed because of an unknown error. (-2147221164)"
Then, in searching for an answer to the problem I wound up at a page that
says:

"Too any automatic redirections attempted"

I have:
AMD-K6-3D processor
40 Gb hard drive----36+ available
Windows 98SE
192MB RAM
IE 5.01

Would certainly appreciate any help that anyone can supply.
