I've done that in the past, and it seems to work partially, meaning that
some folders still pop up with thumbnails for some reason, and it doesn't
stay the way I set it, it starts thumbnailing again seemingly "out of the
blue (although there must be some reason).

Yes! Me too, incredibly, ridiculously slow isn't it? And I have a pretty
speedy computer, too.

Well, I have a broadband cable connection (512K/128K) and it still takes *a
minute or more* to return any results from nearly any search, when I can
get it to return results at all (see my message to Spider about that).
