I did all of this in the advanced options however it still kept coming
back.

Like I say only option for me was to format and start a fresh.

I just revisited the MS AntiSpyware Tool and found the answer. In
Advanced
Options there is a button labeled Browser Hijack Settings Restore. This

brings up a window listing all browser settings in your system (XP in
my
case) and lets you check any or all for removal. It did the trick for
me
and I recommend it for trial by everyone. It's free (Beta 1) until July
and
then it's anyone's guess if Microsoft will begin charging for it.

Interesting that the hijacker immediately put up a box noting that the
a
change to Google was imminent and urging me to reinstate about:blank as
my
opening page. Instead I chose to block it for good.
