On boot now, I get a mini-window titled 'Explorer' that has an
'illegal operation' error message, details are;

EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in
module SHELL32.DLL at 0177:7fce3fb4.

When I click on 'close', it blanks 3/4ths of my systray icons
(lower right clickable icons) but apparently doesn't close the
programs. Then the mini-window error message comes back two more
times, and the third time I click on closing it, it goes away.

Hoping someone has a clue what to do about it. Thanks.
