Salt Assault Festival is a D.I.Y. festival that promotes safe and sustainable voyaging by sea. Since 2012 a group of young sailors have been converging in Rio Dulce Guatemala bi-annually to share skills, dialog topical concerns, and celebrate our successes and shortcomings alike. As word spreads about these free D.I.T. meetups we are finding a growing need for a platform that supports open discussion. The meetups have formally been known simply as the Rio Dulce Boat Punk Meetups, but in an effort to establish a more structured environment that can be made to function in other ports we have introduced Salt Assault ( saltassaultfest.org ) an info site focused on providing the when and where of the next meetup. Past meetup pre-discussions have been done via bcc list or social media sites where after the event happens all dialogue is arrested. We are looking to establish a platform that enables the talk to continue as well as include the growing number of friends whom have chosen to permanently detach themselves from social media sites. We have three goals in a mailing list. 1. To connect people attending the festival so that they may establish safe alternative travel plans. 2. To build a community of motivated individuals who share a common interest in alternative sailing projects. 3. To facilitate festival workshops by organizing people who do not know each other but can work together in providing experience and material that is in line with the general interests and networking goals of this meetup.
