Lake Mary Association Minutes

Monday, July 3rd 2006

The meeting was called to order by interim president Paul Dalpra at 9:00 am.

Milfoil Discussion

Bridget and Larry Bergwall from Runkle Lake shared their experience with Eurasian Milfoil.

Cards were passed out to help identify the plant.  Important points to remember:

Michigan Soil and Stream Association provides information on treatment of lakes.

A list of prevention types of activities was discussed.

  1. Signs for the public landing – must go to the DNR for permission to put up signs.
  2. Explore grant money available to Associations
  3. Prevention packets available to Resort and Camp Christine
  4. Develop a plan to collect money and maintain a fund to treat the lake – tax assessment.
  5. Keep checking nutrient levels.

Water Quality

Lake Mary entered the Co-operative Lakes Monitoring Program – applied and got tools to measure 2 times a year – spring and summer.

Clarity measurement – disk lowered into the water to see how far you can see it – current measurement is 21 to 28 feet.  Eventually this measurement will be taken by a satellite passing over.

Next year we will be able to take more measurements – cost of the program is $150 a year.

The membership voted in favor of paying the $150.
