Welcome to the ubraille mailing list.
List started 2006-10-18T12:39:08.0Z. I am an XML enthusiast, ex RNIB and work in the UK
With that background I can say I have a vested interest in braille generation. Equally I'm concerned that any braille should be encoding aware and support Internationalisation (I18N).
The goals of this mailing list are the generation of Open Source translation software usable in any locale needing contracted braille. The proposed approach is reducing regex table driven with methods supporting locale specific complex exceptions. The usage scope is in automated transformation from XML to embossable grade 2 braille. A working system with constraints is a better system than one which tries and fails to translate complex mathematics etc. I hope that complexity can be addressed over time.
The programming language (today) is Java 1.6 for cross platform use.
I have put up software at ubraille.org which backs up my ideas with some code.
My interests are:
I hope you can share some of the goals and maybe help with the work (fun?) over the next few months.
