Shalom, everyone- Here is the current list of dates and Torah readings for the summer months to the New Year. I am hopeful that you have your summer vacations scheduled, so you will know when you can volunteer to lead a service or do a d'var Torah, or when you will be basking in the sun by the hotel pool or beach. With the summer months, I am more concerned with getting d'var Torahs scheduled than leading services (since we are now so proficient, we may need to rely on whomever is there for the service that day to volunteer to lead.) Having said that, feel free to volunteer for either a d'var Torah or leading a service for the following days: June 17 Beha'alotekha Chanted: Numbers 9:15-10:7 Read: Numbers 9:15-10:34 July 1 Korah Chanted: Numbers 16:20-17:5 Read: Numbers 16:20-17:24 July 15 Pinchas Chanted: Numbers 26:52-27:5 Read: Numbers 26:52-28:15 Aug 5 Va'etchanan Chanted: Deuteronomy 5:1-5:30 Read: Deuteronomy 5:1-6:25 Aug 19 Re'eh Chanted: Deuteronomy 12:29-13:12 Read: Deuteronomy 12:29-14:29 Sept 2 Ki Tetze Chanted: Deuteronomy 23:8-23:19 Read: Deuteronomy 23:8-24:13 Sept 16 Nitzavim-Vayelekh Chanted: Deuteronomy 30:1-30:10 Read: Deuteronomy 30:1-31:6 Sept 23 Rosh Hashanah A note of explanation: Traditionally, Randi has scheduled Torah readers who then chant at least the first 3 aliyot. That is the "chanted" list above. However, if we were to read the entire parsha for the day, it is the "Read" section. If you want to do a d'var Torah and use some of the parsha that is a little past what is going to be chanted, that is OK. I should also say at this time a very heartfelt THANK YOU / TODAH RABBAH to Randi, Mori and Jesse for all the Torah chanting you have given the Havurah. We have greatly relied on you and your skills these past years, and I am very greatful to all of you. As most of you know, Jay has received a Fullbright and the Rothmans will be leaving for Israel for a year in August. So, this leads me to my last plea: Several of us (with Cheryl in the lead) will be doing our best to pick up with the Torah chanting. So, reach back (waaaaay back if you have to!) to your bat/bar mitvah days...or your Sunday school days....or to whatever days you may have learned some Torah trope. Now is the time to be brushing off those rusty skills, and to think about reading 3 lines once a month or so...If you don't know trope, but would be willing to read Torah from the scroll, those skills are needed, too! The liturgy committee would love to know if you are interested in reading from the Torah. So, let me know when and what you would like to do! Suzanne
