Dayton, OH Set your VCRs: ?Dayton?s Jewish War Veterans? airs on ch. 20, DATV
for those on Time Warner cable in Dayton and areas north of the city, on the
following dates and times: Tues., 12/9 6pm; Mon., 12/15 6pm; and Mon., 12/29
8pm. Those who saw this 47-minute documentary about the recollections of 12
Jewish war veterans currently living in Dayton found it to be a moving
commemoration of what these men did to serve this country.

Editor?s Opinion: The ?Geneva Accords? should slip away as quietly as their
?negotiations? began. The only possible good news that can come from this
effort would be the emergence of some possible names of a post-Arafat
leadership among Palestinians.
From www.israel21c.org: Dec. 08 - The Israeli Friends of Tibetan People
(IFTIP) is bringing 50 Tibetans to the Arava in southern Israel for agriculture
training next month, IsraAid has announced. The Arava Project is a unique
agricultural training program offered in cooperation with the moshavim
(agricultural settlements) of the northern Arava. Over the course of a year,
students from developing countries learn advanced agricultural techniques both
formally in classrooms and practically in the field. The IFTIP is a non-profit
organization established by a group of Israelis in 1989. IFTIP's founding
members sought ways to channel their sympathy for the Tibetan plight into
practical plans of action. Over the past five years, over 200 Tibetans have
participated in the Arava Project. The knowledge and experience obtained is
invaluable for the agricultural economies of the Tibetan communities in exile.
The Tibetans believe that advanced agricultur[e] will be a critical element in
the future economy of a free Tibet.
From www.jcpa.org/daily for 12/4/03: Revenue Files "Disappear" from PA Finance
Ministry - Khaled Abu Toameh (Jerusalem Post)
PA Finance Minister Salam Fayyad has revealed that files and documents
detailing revenues from oil products of the PA's Petroleum Authority have
disappeared under mysterious circumstances from his ministry. At a special
session of the Palestinian Legislative Council in Gaza City on Tuesday, several
legislators queried the finance minister about the embezzlement of hundreds of
millions of dollars from the Petroleum Authority and the pocketing of $11m from
the International Bank of Palestine. An initial investigation showed that much
of the profits from the revenues of oil products had been deposited into a bank
account under Arafat's name. Nablus legislator Mu'awyah al-Masri noted that
"millions, if not billions, of dollars of the Petroleum Authority money have
gone missing over the past few years."
And on that same theme, from 12/2/03: Arafat's Over Billion-Dollar Stash -
Rodney Dalton (Sunday Mail-Australia)
PA finance minister Salam Fayyad "is really trying very hard," says Matthew
Levitt, a former FBI analyst who tracks terrorism. "However, (his) best efforts
can only be successful as they pertain to the PA's funds. He has no
jurisdiction over PLO funds, Fatah (Arafat's political party) funds, or any
funds that have been diverted to Yasser Arafat's (or his associates') personal
accounts." Arafat still pays the salaries of more security officers than he
needs, including Palestinian naval police based in landlocked Hebron.
The renewed interest in Arafat's finances comes at a sensitive time for the
Palestinians, who will present their 2004 budget at an international donors
conference in Rome on December 12. Europe - the PA's main financial backer -
wants to know what happened to the $US5.5 billion in international aid that has
flowed in Arafat's direction since the PA was established in 1994.

Moderate Muslim Voice, from www.jcpa.org/daily for 12/2/03: · Muslim Feminist
Wows Crowd in Toronto - Sheldon Gordon
A Muslim Canadian author has called for an Islamic Reformation that would purge
the Muslim world of anti-Semitism. Irshad Manji, 34, a Toronto broadcaster and
self-described observant Muslim, is the author of the Canadian best-seller The
Trouble With Islam: A Wake Up Call for Honesty and Change. The charismatic and
self-assured Manji, an avowed feminist, described how she visited local mosques
incognito, dressed in a full-length burka, and heard the clergy talk of a
"Western, Jewish-led conspiracy against Islam and declare that it is the
responsibility of Muslims in the West to support the jihadis, with their money,
if not with their sons." The Koran includes harsh commentaries on Jews, she
said, "but it also reminds us of the Jews' 'exalted nationhood' and validates
the sovereign role of Jews in the Holy Land." The Koran "gives ample
opportunities to be respectful of Jews; it's a matter of what to emphasize and
what to downplay," she said. (Forward)

And for something a little light-hearted (all puns intended) as Hanukah
approaches, from
http://www.humormatters.com/holidays/Hanukkah/Hanukkahtop10.html :
Top 10 Reasons to Like Hanukkah Submitted by A. Lawson This was shared from
Joke of the Day.
10. No roof damage from reindeer
9. Never a silent night when you're among your Jewish loved ones
8. If someone screws up on their gift, there are seven more days to correct it
7. Betting Hanukkah gelt (the chocolate coins) on candle races
6. You can use your fireplace
5. Naked spin-the-dreidel games
4. Fun waxy buildup on the menorah
3. No awkward explanations of virgin birth
2. Cheer optional
1. No Irving Berlin songs.
And on a more serious note: While at the General Assembly, I heard many
discussions about the problems facing Jews worldwide, not only worries about
the continued existence of Israel but also worries about the drifting away of
our next generation from everything Jewish. Few solutions were proposed.
Among the most intriguing was a proposal by the founder of Birthright Israel,
to give Jewish parents, upon the birth or adoption of a child, a voucher for
100% of the cost of a Jewish education, whether at a Jewish day school or at
other community childhood Jewish and Hebrew education programs.
But, there is something everyone can do, right now, at no cost. Set an
example. Be a role model. If you value what Judaism and Israel has given the
world, say so ? act so ? be so. Study and practice the values you admire, and
share them. Tikkun olam ? repair the world. If you can?t do that all the
time, strive to do it some of the time, then more of the time. We will all
benefit.
