The files are readily available, but new machines and even correctly set-up virtual machines are often incompatible with the original installation programs. Those former Xywriters that have relied on the basic features of the program without delving into the subtleties of the program have serious difficulties setting up the program. And let's face it: automatic setup programs have made us except ready-to-run functionality of a piece of software. A skeleton for a handy basic setup routine: First copy all the necessary files (fixed editor.exe and additional files) to a program directory. Fix path in startup.int and settings.dfl, add login in autoexec.bat. All this should be accomplished with a robust freestanding program. You can add frills later.
