And yes, I am seriously considering spending the money & time to try Parallels (and find a copy of XP to load in it). But it seems wise to wait for Mountain Lion upgrade.

I've had very good success with Parallels.

2. I don't know whether Mountain Lion upgrade requires/benefits from a wait or not. I'd contact Parallels on that.
