[wisb] Re: offshore Lake Michigan waterfowl

Great article Bill. I emailed Paul Smith and thanked him for his recent bird 
articles. He was quite appreciative of the positive feedback.  Nice to see the 
increased interest in birding.  
I wish I could have attended your talk on Tuesday at Riveredge. A question I 
have is about Long-tailed Ducks. What theories are there concerning their 
change in winter distribution? They used to be an easy duck to find during the 
winter in Milwaukee. During the 1970's the Milwaukee CBC sometimes recorded the 
high count for the nation.  They have become much harder to find the past 10 
years.  We missed it this year and were lucky to find one last year on the CBC. 
Your study shows that there are still good numbers on Lake Michigan but they 
aren't wintering here. Just wondering what you and other people think.
