Nancy is right that the "show points sooner" box should correct this.

I just wanted to point out that this new way is better because previously the
global range maps (purple grid map) were only available separately from the
point maps, and also now the point maps spill over state boundaries.

They also changed it so that hotspots appear larger, so it's easier to
differentiate them from personal locations.

The reason the purple grid map exists at all is due to computer processing
time. If you zoomed out on the point map, it would take forever to load.

If you have "show points sooner" checked, it will show up to 2000 points,
which, for rarer species or more restricted time intervals, can be a pretty
large region.

Subject: [wisb] Re: eBird Change to Mapping Sightings There's a way to get the
"stickpins" to appear when you're zoomed farther
out.Look on the right side of the map. There a box you can check that says
something like "show points sooner". When you check this box, the
"stickpins" show up as soon as 2000 or less fit in your view. Try it!
