Hey everyone ---- I wish I had the time to mention everyything I had on Saturday, but I'll just go over the highlights, which would probably be everything !!! Numbers were incredible. I got 95 sps. for just my count area alone, but 111 sps. for my Big Day, which in turn I gained 33 sps. for the month. I got 20 warbler sps. including 2 CONNECTICUTS, 1 PINE, and 1 orange-crown. 10 sparrows, inc. 2 HENSLOW"S and a LINCOLN"S. Only got 4 woodpeckers but the kicker was a PILEATED on my bosses property, which also happened to be where the first warbler of the day happened, a singing CONN. plus on his land were towhee , 8 Clay-colored sparrows and BB Cucko !!!! The other CONN. was a female I had at the same locality in the berg of Fisk on the fall count last year. I was going by 5:45 a.m. and went until noon for the count and went 'til 4:30 for the rest. 2 GH owls greeted me as I arrived at my bosses place. Got an ORCHARD ORIOLE elsewhere and some renegade pelicans, cormorant and a Peregrine Falcon, apparently not Titan since this one was northbound and way high up. Too bad I couldn't get to Sand Pit Rd. south of 9th, just west of Oshkosh on Saturday, I would've added an awesome collection of shorebirds to the list. The best was a pair of very long time no see Long-billed dowitchers, a single spotted sandpiper, 1 Pectoral, 1 semipalmated sandpiper, as well as Plover, and handfuls of dunlin and least. Many of the Leasts were feeding more in the plowed areas around the puddle. THEN ! , I headed over to the infamous Woods FF/ 9 where the first thing to greet me was yet ANOTHER PILEATED !!!! So we've got at least 2 Pilly's in the county right now, unless Bettie has one, too, in her back yard. What I found shocking was there were no warblers at all, just the Pileated and 3 other woodpeckers and other standards. Added another shorebird this a.m., c/o the beach at Menominee Park, just a single Ruddy turnstone, but that's good to see at least 1, hopefully more'll be coming in in the next few days, now that a new batch of lakeflies are hatching. Then maybe sanderlings, et al will be arriving. SO !, now I'm at 138 sps. for the month, just for Winn. Co. Do you think I had a good day? WOW !
