This morning I birdwatched at the Superior Entry from Wisconsin Point, and birdwatched with Mike Hendrickson. There was a good assortment of Ring-billed Gulls and Herring Gulls, and one BONAPARTE'S GULL still lingering around. One of the biggest personal highlights from this morning was seeing a good assortment of dark buteos. I witnessed and identified my first HARLAN'S RED-TAILED HAWK. This bird first appeared as a dark morph Red-tailed Hawk flying by, but then I realized that there was a considerable amount of white flecking/mottling on the back of the wings, with a tiny bit of white flecking on the underbody. What a sharp bird it was! The two other Red-tailed Hawks consisted of one light morph and one dark morph, and the three Rough-legged Hawks consisted of two dark morphs and one light morph! Here is my eBird list from today at the Superior Entry: Common Goldeneye 1 Common Merganser 2 Bald Eagle 2 Red-tailed Hawk 3 Rough-legged Hawk 3 Bonaparte's Gull 1 Ring-billed Gull 100 Herring Gull 150 Snow Bunting 4 Good birdwatching, Erik Bruhnke Duluth, MN NATURALLY AVIAN - Guided bird hikes and bird photography www.pbase.com/birdfedr birdfedr@xxxxxxxxx #################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn).
