When I was a kid and my dad showed me the little blue berries on the red ceders
that many of our wintering birds eat, he called them "cedar cones" and that
name has stuck with me ever since. So the "cones" the birds were eating were
indeed the blue "juniper berries" that adorn the tips of branches of our red
cedars.
