Good Morning, As I stepped out into my parents' backyard this morning, I noticed a hummingbird atop a honeysuckle bush near the garden, I got my "glove box" pair of binoculars from my car for a better look and saw that it was a hatch-year male Selasphorus Hummingbird, with extensive rufous on the flanks and lower back, upper back was largely green with some rufous flecks. It's throat was largely white, with a single line for red gorget feathers coming in. I observed it for a total of 20 minutes, including 5 minutes of scope views of the perched bird, from around 15 yards. It was feeding on Cannas, and aggressively defending the honeysuckle bush from any intruding juncos, so I felt safe going in the house to look for a camera. Unfortunately, I haven't seen it since then, I will update if it returns.
