I made the drive over to Schumacher Road this morning and arrived about 745. The Glossy Ibis was not seen. At one point, a flock of nearly 100 longspurs flew over the road. I heard the distinct call of the Smith's Longspur twice. This call is a sharp three note "pit a pit" which reminds me of a Summer Tanager. I have previously seen Smith's in Indiana and this call is very diagnostic and easy to remember. Unfortunately during the hour I remained here with 2 other birders I did not hear the call again. Several Lapland's could be seen near the road and at times the flock would take flight and it contained nearly 100 birds. All I can say with certainty is that there was still at least one Smith's Longspur present this morning but it remains very tough to see.
