We have a large flock 30 - 40+ of mostly goldfinch, lots of pine siskins and quite a few redpolls. They have been around for 2 days and this morning I think I saw a hoary redpoll. I couldn't get close enough for a picture, but he will probably be back. He was sitting close to a common redpoll and in comparison he was much lighter with white undertail coverts and a clear breast with a pink wash on it. If there was any streaking along his flanks, it was very slight. I didn't get a chance to see his back. I had one here last year and got pictures of it. Not anything special around...........just the usual. There aren't many waterfowl in front of the house either. Goldeneyes (sadly never a Barrows), red-breasted mergansers and a few bufflehead. Went birding with my 11 year old grandson, who is becoming an avid birder, and our best find was 4 tundra swans. Max saved his money last summer and bought a Sibleys. We also got him some good binoculars from Eagle for Christmas.
