A number of Purple Martins around the state are being fitted with
radio transmitters to try and track them once they leave their
breeding colony and before they head to South America. Last Sunday I
was able to help put radios on 3 birds and have posted photos and a
short video of the process on my blog for those who might be
interested.

Keep an eye out for Purple Martins that look like they have an extra
long tail feather (the antenna) or a big white rump patch (the glue
spot). These martins should be leaving their colonies by the end of
the month.
