This morning I checked out the Coast Guard Impoundment. I haven't been down
there in a few weeks, and it has grown up with very tall greenery, making it
quite difficult to get a look at the water spots. I did however see a
red-tailed hawk on a nearby light post that was very pale. The head was
kind of pale vanilla in color, with a very light brown cap. The eyes looked
big and dark in that pale face. The breast and belly were very white. The
scapulars had large white spots, which makes me think this might have been a
juvenile. The entire tail was standard dark red, so I wouldn't call this a
Krider's red-tailed hawk. Just an interesting variation on a theme.
