At 10:45AM I found myself "a day late and a dollar short" on the Little Gull found by John Idzikowski Tuesday! In fact there were NO Caspian Terns or Bonaparte's Gulls left on the beach at South Shore Park! Noon in Lake Park featured 4 species of bird songs everywhere! AMERICAN ROBINS, AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES, WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS (of course!) and, the big surprise, BROWN THRASHERS (I'd never heard so many singing in any one area before this!)! Warblers of note: BLACK-THROATED BLUE, BLACKPOLL, GOLDEN-WINGED and a probable MOURNING. The big disappointment though was not being able to locate even one of the Red-headed Woodpeckers in any of the ravines. At the MCGI at around 1:00PM I found 8-10 WILLETS in the "front 40". Also GADWALLS, BLUE-WINGED TEAL, NORTHERN SHOVELERS, MALLARDS and KILLDEER were present. In the "back 40" about 50+ CASPIAN TERNS lounging around but the Bonaparte's Gulls had departed. (No Avocets either!). Boy....those chores have fallen by the wayside Happy Birding!
