The peak of Dark-eyed Junco migration has reached the south shore of Lake Superior. This evening I counted 310 in my yard. Earlier this morning, local birder Harold Vanselow commented, "The commute in from Cornucopia today [to Ashland] was made eventful by the thousands of juncos lining the road for nearly 20 miles. Every tenth of a mile or so another flock would swirl up from the roadside. It was a challenge to dodge them all but we managed to do that."
