I spent a few hours at Horicon, on HWY 49 and the Auto Tour loop. The
highlights were the cattle egret (mentioned by Jeremy earlier), 2 willets just
east of the pump house with the other shorebirds, a least bittern (mentioned by
Jeremy earlier), a trumpeter swan on the north side of 49, a number of Virginia
Rails and an eagle. I came up with a total of 65 species today, so not too
bad. There are lots of shorebirds and I counted 14 BN Stilts today. In
addition to stilts and willets, I had Pectoral, Stilt, semipalmated, least
sandpipers and both yellow legs. There was also a single Wilsonâs Phalarope,
no red-necked that I could locate unfortunately.
