When most of the showers ended late this morning I made a trip down to Horicon
Marsh. Of course there was a shower there when i arrived but it soon stopped.
The shorebirds then appeared, when initially there were only a few, with 12
species and some nice numbers for several. Best was a Red-necked Phalarope
with 2 Wilson's Phalaropes towards the east end of the pump house pond. Also
here were 12 Black-necked Stilts, 65 Stilt Sandpipers, 25 Least and 140
Semipalmated Sandpipers, but only 2 Short-billed Dowitchers, plus both
yellowlegs, 10 Semip. Plovers, etc. As I was leaving the marsh I found a
Olive-sided Flycatcher perched in a dead tree, obviously a migrant.
